Cox & Jones undertake maintenance and full restoration of existing conservatories and orangeries as well as period properties.  We are experienced in works on historic buildings and have undertaken restoration works on a number of listed buildings, dealing with English Heritage, planners and conservation officers.

Some of our typical service, maintenance and restoration projects are shown in the following studies.  Please select the project image links opposite.

We have unrivalled experience in the specialist service, maintenance and restoration of bespoke timber buildings from many of the recognised leading manufacturers.  Cox & Jones are in the unique position of having hands on knowledge of what other companies provide in terms of construction detail and quality.

Few companies appear able or willing to deal with existing glass buildings.  Timber structures are often inherently difficult structures that require careful attention and respect.  We believe we have all the necessary qualities and confidence to work on such buildings.

Key areas of our service, maintenance and restoration work involve structural repairs and re-glazing.  Most glazed structures built within the past 40 years are double glazed.  Unfortunately, sealed double glazed units will not last indefinitely and in time do fail.  Unit failure is highlighted by condensation collecting between the panes of glass, indicating the units are no longer hermetically sealed; resulting in leakage, unsightly moisture retention and staining between the panes.  Of course failure also means the units are not acting as they should with regard to their thermal insulating properties; resulting in increased heat loss.

Clearly, thermal regulations and glass technologies have changed significantly within this 40 year period.  Consequently many of our clients have chosen that we carry out full re-glazing, particularly on roofs.  This provides the opportunity to upgrade the glazing specification to current thermal standards or in many cases improving both the thermal standards whilst incorporating solar control and self-cleaning qualities.

Timber is a material which lends itself perfectly to fine complex structural applications.  Careful species selection can insure natural long term durability, however it will deteriorate if inadequately maintained and subjected to long term water ingress.  Most problems in our experience are caused by roof and gutter leaks leading to saturation and ultimately decay, particularly on roof ridges and main load bearing frames.  Consequently we have undertaken many restoration projects which have involved replacing these integral members, comprising partial dismantling and substantial and often complex propping and bracing of the structure to facilitate replacement.

Frequently these long term problems could be avoided by routine inspection and maintenance.  Cox & Jones offer regular scheduled specialist maintenance service and inspection visits to the client’s timescale choice.
