A structurally complex conservatory linking two buildings in Norway.

We were presented with a unique set of parameters to design and construct a substantial conservatory linking two properties on the same site in Oslo.  To account for high levels of snow, the imposed loadings for the structural design were more than double those used in the North of England and Scotland.  The host buildings being timber framed were unable to support any significant vertical or lateral loads.

The new conservatory structure was therefore designed with a sophisticated structurally challenging concealed steel frame.  To add to the task the construction took place during winter with temperatures around -15 degrees.  Like many successful projects the elegance of the building belies the complexity of the structure concealed within.
